Choosing your first crystal can be fun, exciting and a very spiritual experience. Whether it’s your first time or fiftieth, choosing a crystal is a personal decision! Here are a few ways to get started.

Intuitively
Intuitively allow a crystal to speak to you, or call upon the Universe to lead you to the crystal that’s right for you. You’ll know this by eye, touch or feeling. Allow yourself to remain open and receptive to whatever crystal comes your way. 

If you’re shopping online, slow down and begin to notice how each crystal you see makes you feel while looking at it, imagine holding it and what it would feel like. Take note of which ones continue to draw you back to them. 

If you’re shopping at a crystal shop, notice if you have any physical reaction to a stone, a subtle tug or pull. It always happens to me, I pick one up, not thinking much of it, and carry it with me around the store. When it comes time to go, I can’t put it down, it feels like a new friend that I’ve know my entire life. 

Research
Another way to choose a crystal is by doing a little research, identify what your current moment needs then look into what different stones can provide. 

Here are some popular crystals and their powers -

Amethyst: activates spiritual awareness (among many other healing properties)

Rose Quartz: perfect for healing a broken heart (anything to do with the heart)

Citrine: a great energetic pick me up (strengthening stone)

Bloodstone: finding your center (grounding and calming stone)

Clear Quartz: the “Master Healer” (amplifier, strengthens other crystals)

From there I allow my intuition to guide me to a crystal to work with. Experiment with stones that have different "properties".

Align to your Chakra
Another popular way to choose a crystal is seeking the crystal for the body part or chakra that you think needs some extra love.

Root Chakra -base of spine: grounding, protection, safety and comfort in your environment. Bloodstone, Jasper, Smokey Quartz, Garnet.

Sacral Chakra -lower belly: abundance, power, sexuality, courage. Tiger’s Eye, Citrine, Orange Calcite.

Solar Plexus Chakra -just above the naval: inner-child-awakening, spontaneity, fun, joy. Citrine, Tiger’s Eye, Pyrite.

Heart Chakra- at the center of your chest: love, self-love, acceptance. Rose Quartz, Rose Amethyst, Jade, Fluorite, Malachite, Rhodochrosite. 

Throat Chakra-at the throat: communication, self-trust, channeling divine information. Celestite, Angelite, Turquoise.

Third-Eye Chakra-between the eyebrows: intuition, ability to meditate, mental purity and clarity. Amethyst, Labradorite, Azurite, Fluorite.

Crown Chakra-top of the head: connection with the divine, pure consciousness. Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Labradorite.
